After a decade, state elections will be held in Occupied Kashmir today

Srinagar: After a decade (10 years) in Occupied Kashmir, state elections are going to be held today.


The elections to be held today on September 18, 2019 are being held more than 5 years after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government, the last elections in


Occupied Kashmir were held in 2014.


The elections are being held in December last year after the order of the Indian Supreme Court to hold elections in the occupied valley.


The state elections of Occupied Kashmir will be held in 3 phases, the first phase will be held today. Voting in the second phase will be held on September 25 and in the third phase on October 1, while the results will be announced on October 8.


About 8.7 million voters are eligible to vote for a total of 90 seats in Occupied Kashmir elections, while voting will be held for 24 seats in the first phase.


The main contest in the elections will be between Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party and Omar Abdullah's National Conference, both of whom have held the post of Chief Minister of Occupied Kashmir in the past.


Talking about other parties, India's ruling party BJP is also participating in the elections while Congress has decided to fight in alliance with Omar Abdullah's party National Conference.
